Zimbabwe National Auditions General Information

 

The Zimbabwe National Audition for the 2012 Summer Session of the World Youth Choir will be held on Saturday 28th January 2012 at a venue later to be announced. The auditions will begin at 10am and will go on for as long as it takes to get through the short-listed candidates. There are only 12 slots available for the 2nd stage of the Auditions which is the International Adjudication process. In order for singers to get to this second stage they will have to satisfy the National Adjudication Panel and be among the 12 best singers on the day. The audition will be recorded and the recorded material of the successful candidates will be sent through to the International Audition in Belgium. Below is a breakdown of the requirements for the National Audition. 

Conditions of participation

 

Participants must be 17 to 26 years old on the 1st of July, 2012

 

Events will be conducted in English, and a good knowledge of the language is required

 

*From arrival to departure, accommodation, transportation and all material needs are provided by the organization.

 

Participants are responsible for:

 

*Travel from home to the camp place in Pedoulas, Cyprus and back home.

 

*Visas and all official requirements

 

*Pocket money for private expenses

 

Audition Requirements

Each candidate should prepare the following:

 

*Sight-reading exercise (provided at the audition)

 

*Range test: One scale sung forte and a cappella, on an open vowel, presenting the entire voice-range.

 

*Prepared score: excerpt from H Howels’ Requiem (available here

 

*An Aria or Lied of their own choice, with or without piano accompaniment, demonstrating their best artistic and vocal abilities. The prepared score must be sung in the correct octave and proper key for the voice part for which a candidate is auditioning.

 

NOTE: here we strongly advise that the candidate present a piece within the style and vocal range they are most comfortable with. Do not try and impress the judges by presenting something well out of your range and capabilities. A score must be made available for this piece.

 

Interested singers should submit an application form (available here) to Mr. T. Mukarati at the St John's College Music Department (weekdays from 8am to 5pm only) by no later than 4pm on Monday 16th January 2012 along with the $50 application fee. Alternatively, completed application forms can be sent in via email to tinashe@mukaratimusic.com, along with scanned proof of payment of the application fee which should be deposited into an account whose details are available on receipt of application.

NOTE: Application is not complete until payment has been made.
